The shorter duration is possible because students are building upon their existing knowledge and skills from the initial certification.

The correct CPR compression-to-ventilation ratio for adults is 30:2. This means that for every 30 chest compressions, the rescuer should give 2 rescue breaths. This is within the overall protocol of 100-120 compressions per minute at least 2 inches deep. This is the standard for effective bystander CPR. Proper technique and minimising interruptions to compressions are key to maximising blood flow and oxygen delivery during cardiac arrest.

The DRSABCD action plan stands for:
Danger: Look around to make sure it’s safe for you, the person who is hurt, and anyone nearby.
Response: Check if the person can respond by gently shaking them and loudly asking, “Are you alright?”
Send for help: If the person doesn’t respond and isn’t breathing normally, call 000 to get emergency help.
Airway: Open their airway by tilting their head back and lifting their chin.
Breathing: Check if they are breathing normally by looking, listening, and feeling. If they aren’t, you need to start CPR.
CPR: Do chest compressions and give rescue breaths to help keep their heart and lungs working.
Defibrillation: Use an AED (a special machine) if you have one, and follow its instructions.
